
CSC – Tieteen tietotekniikan keskus Oy (CSC)
CSC, the Finnish IT Center for Science, is a non-profit limited company whose shares are fully owned by Finnish state, and governed by the Finnish Ministry of Education. It is the largest national center in Northern Europe with a staff exceeding 170 (2009) providing modelling, computing and information services for academia, research institutes, the public sector and industry. CSC is also active in data management e.g., Radio and TV archive, national digital library and national long term storage) and maintains Funet, the Finnish University and Research Network, enabling fast connections between researchers.
CSC is pushing the envelope in information management, grid environments and information networks on the national and international level. It is a multi-disciplinary e-Infrastructure provider supporting a European-wide customer base, of thousands of researchers in disciplines such as biosciences, linguistics, chemistry and mathematical modelling. CSC is closely collaborating with Finnish ministries and other national funding agencies in development of e-Infrastructure competence. It has close connections to e- infrastructure providers globally and represents Finland in key e-Infrastructure development projects such as DEISA, EGEE, EGI, PRACE and ELIXIR.
