Tessella  specialises in the application of innovative software solutions to scientific, technical and engineering problems. Tessella’s activities cover a range of industries, working for customers in the life sciences, oil and gas, chemicals, transport and environmental engineering.

Tessella has over 20 years of expertise in the area of reliable and authentic long-term preservation of electronic records, both for government and scientific organisations. Tessella supplies the “Safety Deposit Box” a complete Digital Archiving Solution that is currently in use at 10 national archives and libraries. Tessella also provides consultancy, bespoke customer development, and integration services in the digital archiving space. The key unique feature is the Active Preservation tool that allows organisations to plan the long term availability of their digital assets and to conduct digital preservation activities such as migration.

Tessella is also active in research in this field. Projects include the Dutch Testbed project, the EU PLANETS project and the KEEP project. This research is used to enhance the products available to customers and to add to the knowledge of the whole community.
