Evidence-based Digital Preservation Tools Repository

The APARSEN tools repository is the central access point for finding software related to digital preservation. The edited lists allow you to find appropriate tools meeting your requirements. Tools are organized according to the data type they handle and their role in digital preservation systems. Evidence from research and application as well as user rating and comments support you in assessing the tools. Read more on background and concepts of the evidence-based tool repository.

Common Testing Environments

Planning and implementing your digital preservation strategy must base on techniques and tools appropriate for your requirements. APARSEN is setting-up a collection of testbeds which will include testing procedures and test data, together with test software if appropriate, which can be used to provide a common measure for digital preservation techniques. The latest report summarises the test environments which have been examined and the proposed common testing approach, and also provides a framework within which to evaluate the efficacy and applicability of proposed preservation tools and techniques. Read more on common testing environments.

Digital Rights and Access Management Techniques and Tools

Upcoming mid of 2013, APARSEN will publish its report on Digital Rights Management (DRM) in preservation. It will provide you with a summary on research in this field, organize DRM issues in digital preservation and also give you at hand appropriate tools identified. Read more on APARSEN research on digital rights management in digital preservation.

Common Testing Environments

APARSEN will collect together a set of environments to test the efficacy of tools and techniques for digital preservation, against changes in hardware, software, environment and knowledgebase of the Designated Communities, and design new ones if necessary.
Besides preservation efficacy one also needs to test against portability, interoperability, robustness and scalability. We need testbed techniques which …

Digital Rights and Access Management

APARSEN will create techniques for preserving the usefulness of Digital Rights associated with digital objects. A specific report will summarise ongoing research on Digital Rights and requirements in order to produce a research map to identify the appropriate tools.

Evidence-based Digital Preservation Tools Repository

There are many lists of digital preservation tools. This is not just another such list. It is an attempt to build an evidence-base for preservation tools, and in particular to try to identify which tools are appropriate for which type of data.
Therefore, APARSEN is collecting  , and the . Some of this evidence comes …
